China tests intercontinental ballistic missile

In a statement made by the Chinese Ministry of Defense, it was stated that the missile carrying a fake warhead fell in a designated area off the Pacific Ocean.

The statement said the test launch was a routine activity in the Chinese army’s annual training plan, and noted that it was carried out in accordance with international law and practice and did not target any country.

The statement did not provide information on exactly where in the ocean the missile fell.

Ballistic missiles with a range exceeding 5,500 kilometers are defined as “intercontinental.” The most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile China has ever produced, the “Dongfing (east wind) 41” (DF-41), has a range of 12,000 to 15,000 kilometers.

China first test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile in the South Pacific in 1980.
