China’s BYD announces a new generation of batteries for electric vehicles in 2025

BYD has announced a new generation of electric vehicle batteries for next year, raising the stakes in the battle for the world market amid slackening demand and smaller household budgets around the world.

The new generation of lithium-iron-phosphate batteries Blade Battery will be significantly more economical in taking up space in the vehicle, will guarantee covering a longer distance between two charges and will last longer, according to the Chinese company.

The Blade Battery will also be safer because it will not involve the risk of fire, said BYD CEO and founder Wang Chuanfu.

The company introduced the first generation of batteries based on lithium-iron-phosphate compounds in March 2020 and now uses them in its entire line of vehicles. In the past few years, they have not been modernized, so other manufacturers took advantage of the opportunity, such as the Chinese CATL.

BYD is focusing on the development of battery life cycle management systems that, after being used in vehicles, could also be used for energy storage, Cao Shuang, director of the European car sales department, told the Chinese portal CGTN.
