Rejected, “If you make money through courageous actions, your sincerity will be damaged.”
A Chinese woman who blocked a man holding a knife with an umbrella is receiving praise in China for turning down an offer to make a lot of money after becoming a hot topic online.
On the 3rd, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Mr. Ryu subdued a man with an umbrella in a stabbing incident that occurred in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, on the 11th of last month.
A video released online shows Ryu stepping forward to hit the man’s hand with an umbrella while a man is being violent, including grabbing a woman’s hair.
After some time, employees from a nearby restaurant came out with kitchen utensils, including a ladle, and joined in, pushing the man with the weapon and successfully subduing him. The police arrested this man.
Because of the clothes she was wearing at the time of the incident, netizens called her the floral dress girl.
Afterwards, the video of her actions spread through social media, leading to sponsorship from several companies. Proposals for a live streamer selling umbrellas also followed.
But Mr. Ryu rejected all offers. In response, one company pointed out that “giving up money is foolish,” and her friends also advised her to use her fame to make money.
However, Mr. Ryu was worried that converting his courageous actions into money would damage his sincerity.
He said, “I am afraid that if I receive sponsorship, my sincere actions may be damaged,” and “I am also afraid of malicious comments being made online.”
He continued, “My instinct to help people in need was influenced by the honest character and sense of justice of the people of Chongqing, my hometown. It was like a movie, but it was just a small thing that happened in my life and is now a thing of the past.” He was humble.
