Chrome fastest browser in new performance test

PCWorld have tested six popular browsers against each other to see which one is the fastest. The performance tests included Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Brave Browser and Vivaldi.

The PC side used Speedometer 3.0 to measure browser response speed in web applications and Jetstream2 to test how fast they can render a website using Javascript. Finally, PCWorld used Motionmark 1.3 to see how well they can maintain a certain frame rate while rendering complex animations.

Google Chrome, which came first in the response speed test and second in both the Javascript and graphics tests, was crowned the winner. Last in the race is Firefox, which came second in the response speed test but last in the other two.

PCWorld points out a unique difference between the two browsers. Chrome is the fastest but is also known to collect large amounts of user data, while Firefox prioritizes your privacy more.

The computer side performed the test on a computer with a Ryzen 5 3600 processor, 16 GB of primary memory, a Geforce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card and a 970 Evo Plus NVMe SSD. The computer also ran the 22H2 version of Windows 10. According to PCWorld, they selected the components and operating system to show how the browsers perform on a computer with average specifications.
