- Google TV Streamer has apparently appeared in the FCC database
- Chromecast successor with Google TV will offer Ethernet
- It could be introduced as early as August 13
While we’re all waiting for the new Pixels, it has sneaked into the FCC database the successor to the popular Chromecast with Google TV, which we first informed you about a few days ago. It should change its name from the obnoxious “Google Chromecast with Google TV” to the (in my view) clearer designation “Google TV Streamer”. In addition, the database confirmed several interesting improvements.
The device appeared at the FCC not under the usual Google account, but under the banner of the Taiwanese company How Much Computer. This is the same company that produced Pixelbook or Pixel Slate for Google in the past. So we have our first clue. Code designation GRS6B also fits into the American naming system.
According to the test setup, the new Google TV Streamer could have ports USB-C a Ethernet. With the current Chromecast, you have to use a cable to connect to the Internet external hub, which we describe by the way in our contemporary review. So it would be a solid upgrade over the current Chromecast. Anyone who doesn’t want to rely on Wi-Fi will certainly appreciate Ethernet, and USB-C will also come in handy for connecting external drives.
As for power, it’s a bit of a mystery here. Either will have a device a second USB-C port, or Google reaches for a proprietary connector, which it uses on some of its smart devices. When will we get a new piece? We would guess that it could be part of the big presentation on August 13, where Google will introduce new products.
Are you looking forward to the new Google TV Streamer?
