Google kicked off 2025 with an update to its Chromecast streaming dongles with Google TV. Labeled package STTL.241013.003 comes after last year’s version STTL.240812.006.N1 and brings mainly newer security patches from November 2024.
The update has size 72,25 MBwhich is slightly more than the November update at 59.48 MB. Besides the security patches, it only includes “additional bug fixes and performance improvements,” according to the official changelog. However, the device still runs on Android 12, which is somewhat disappointing at a time when Android 16 is slowly around the corner.
Last year was quite rich in updates – Google released a total of eight of them, specifically in February, March, April, May, August, September, October and November.
The next big update will probably be already expected update to Android 14which is supposed to bring a major innovation in the form of “Home runtime”. This should allow you to use Chromecast with Google TV as headquarters for smart devices supporting the Matter standard. In essence, this eliminates the need to buy another bridge.
