Chungnam Province announced on the 19th that it has designated the Salvation Army Areumduri located in Cheonan as a ‘South Chungcheong Province regional counseling center for pregnant women in crisis.’
The Salvation Army Areumduri is a welfare facility for single mothers operated by the Korea Salvation Army Foundation, and has been supporting pregnant women in crisis since 2015.
Crisis pregnant women are pregnant women who are experiencing crises, such as giving up on giving birth and raising children due to economic burden and social prejudice.
The organization provides counseling to pregnant women to help them give birth and raise their children safely, and supports protective measures such as birth registration for newborns.
Pregnant women in crisis can receive counseling on childbirth, parenting, and child protection 24 hours a day.
Kim Jong-soo, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Policy, said, “We will give top priority to supporting the safe childbirth of pregnant women in crisis, and in cases where it is difficult to raise children with their original families, we will support prenatal checkups and childbirth under an assumed name through medical institutions, as well as adoption and protection of the children born.”
