Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on Wednesday that he does not agree with the provision that the Romanian state should provide state-owned housing for the country’s former presidents and that these housing should be rented.
“I think we should also change a bit. I don’t think that a former president, it’s as if we are stuck, we want a new world with old rules, we want a world for some young people who change the world with our old thoughts. Tell me why the Romanian state must own houses for former presidents? The Romanian state has the obligation to provide a former president with a residential space. Why not rent an apartment in a neighborhood with security? Why do they have to arrange certain houses or state buildings? Why we are not very clear, that is the prime minister’s residence, regardless of whether you live in Bucharest or not, that is the president’s residence”, said the prime minister in a press conference at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
He added that if he becomes president, he will change the provisions regarding the expenses incurred by a head of state.
“Why not say how much you had monthly expenses, why not say where you moved, why you moved?” he said.
