On Saturday afternoon, the crew of the police helicopter of the duty team of the Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia (GRZS) rescued foreign hikers who lost their way due to the fog and got stuck on a steep rocky terrain. They were inappropriately equipped for walking in the highlands, they stated at PU Kranj and once again pointed out the demanding conditions in the highlands.

As the Kranj Police Department (PU) wrote in a press release, rescuers intervened on Saturday around 5:30 p.m.

German citizens, a 21-year-old female hiker and a 20-year-old male hiker, set out to Triglav from the direction of Vodnikovo dom, and while descending the Gorjanska poti towards Planika’s home, they got lost in front of Triglavska skrbina, at an altitude of about 2700 meters, due to unfavorable weather conditions. paths. They found themselves above a steep rocky terrain, from where they no longer dared to continue their journey, nor to return.

They were inappropriately equipped for walking in the highlands, without helmets, without self-protection kit and so on. The hiker was even wearing sneakers,” they wrote at the PU Kranj. They were transported by helicopter to Stara Fužina, where they were taken over by rescuers from the Bohinj Mountain Rescue Service.


At the same time, the police once again warned that the weather conditions in the highlands are very changeable. Due to the recent newly fallen snow and thus in some places icy ground, fog, wind, they again called for responsible and prudent decisions and for maximum caution when planning tours to the highlands.
