Clear warning to high-flyer Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz can already look back on an extremely successful tennis year in 2024. However, the Spaniard suffered an unusual setback at the US Open. John McEnroe and Justine Henin are critical of the shooting star’s busy schedule.

“He needs a long break now and has to choose the tournaments in which he wants to shine really carefully,” McEnroe advised Alcaraz in an interview with “Eurosport”.

The Spanish tennis superstar is “like a Ferrari” for him. He is the best player I have seen at this age. But I think he needs more breaks, the 65-year-old said.

“It’s not surprising that the players are tired”

In addition to McEnroe, Justine Henin also spoke to the TV station. “Alcaraz’s end-of-season schedule raises questions when you look at the exhibitions and competitions. It’s not surprising that the players are tired,” warned the seven-time Grand Slam winner.

Alcaraz was recently surprisingly defeated in the second round of the US Open by 1:6, 5:7, 4:6 against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.

“Today I played against an opponent and against myself. So many emotions that I couldn’t control. It can’t be like that if I want to achieve great things. So I have to improve. I have to learn that,” said the 21-year-old in response to his exit in New York.

Strong tennis year for Carlos Alcaraz

Nevertheless, Alcaraz has already had an extremely successful tennis season. The right-hander triumphed at both the French Open and Wimbledon – his third and fourth Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz also won the silver medal at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

The young tennis player is currently competing with the Spanish team at the Davis Cup in Valencia.
