The National Union of Dicasterial Judicial Registry reports the case of a clerk at the Bucharest Court who was seriously injured after several shelves from the archive fell on her. The trade unionists say that the woman is in a serious condition and claim that the Bucharest Court officials did not provide details about the incident, asking the employees not to talk about this incident.

The National Union of the Dicasterial Judicial Registry reports an “almost fatal incident at the Bucharest Court”.

“A clerk was seriously injured after several shelves from the archive of the 6th Civil Section collapsed on her. The event, which took place on Monday at around 3:00 p.m., revealed major problems related to the security and working conditions of the employees of the courts of the Bucharest Court of Appeal and the Bucharest Tribunal, but also of many courts throughout the country . According to witnesses, several employees were in the archive when the unstable and unsecured structure of the shelves collapsed, burying the clerk under a pile of files and metal. The emergency medical crews arrived at the scene and managed to stabilize her, but her condition remains critical, being urgently transported to the hospital. The police opened an investigation to establish the exact causes of this earth-shattering event”, the representatives of the trade unionists said.

According to them, the employees were “forbidden” to talk about the incident and an attempt was made to minimize the seriousness of the situation.

“The Dicasterial SNGJ wanted to obtain, by phone, a series of preliminary information, but the management of the Bucharest Court was not available, as we were informed both by the President’s Office and by the Office of Information and Public Relations. We remind you that the Dicasterial SNGJ has complained that many courts and prosecution units do not comply with the minimum conditions of safety and health at work and/or the prevention and extinguishing of fires, however, many of the leaders of these institutions continue to ignore this subject, until they take place such unfortunate incidents, which many times they tried to cover up”, the trade unionists also state in the statement.

According to them, the issues were raised including among the collective negotiations initiated by the Dicasterial SNGJ, but the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which has the capacity of employer for the staff from its own apparatus and from the courts located in the territorial area of competence, did not continue the dialogue and negotiation collective.

“Dicasterial SNGJ has repeatedly stated that such incidents were predictable and insisted on the need for periodic checks and the constant improvement of working conditions, but the management of the Bucharest Court of Appeal continues to fail in protecting its own employees. This dramatic incident opens a series of questions that must receive urgent answers (…) It is time for the judicial institutions to show responsibility, to take concrete measures for the health and safety at work of the employees and to provide clear answers when they occur of incidents. Otherwise, the risk of similar tragedies will remain a constant threat,” the trade unionists said.
