Climate change increases the risk of snakebites

The WHO warns of an increase in the frequency of snakebites caused by climate change in Africa.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning of an increase in the number of snake bites as a result of floods caused by climate change, which claim tens of thousands of victims annually.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, there are approximately 314,000 cases of snake bites per year, of which 15,000 are fatal, France24 writes.

The region faces a lack of specific treatments needed to save lives. The WHO has announced that it will increase their availability in the most affected areas.
