Close to an agreement for Alpine to become a Mercedes customer team

Alpine is reportedly very close to signing Mercedes to supply power units, gearboxes and suspensions, which will see the French team no longer a factory, but a customer.

Reports are of advanced talks, with the deal starting in 2025. Alpine’s new adviser, Flavio Briatore, was seen making several visits to the Mercedes motorhome during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, with Alpine taking this decision because its power unit lags significantly behind those of its rivals and to judge that the investment of millions required to develop its power unit is now worth it.

Of course, the cooperation of the two groups will continue from 2026, when the new regulations for power units will be introduced.

Alpine will become Mercedes’ fourth client team, following McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams, with Aston Martin leaving for Honda from 2026.
