Closure announced for the Novares automotive equipment manufacturer site in Ostwald, near Strasbourg

The closure of the Novares automotive equipment manufacturer site in Ostwald (Bas-Rhin), which specializes in plastic injection, will be on the agenda of a central CSE on September 25 at the group’s headquarters in Vélizy-Villacoublay (Yvelines). Employees at the Alsatian plant learned of the group’s decision at an extraordinary CSE meeting earlier this week. 126 employees are affected.

The cause is the decrease in orders for the Alsatian factory. At Monday’s meeting, Novares employees also learned that negotiations with the British car manufacturer Ineos, which was looking for a local subcontractor for its production site in Hambach (Moselle), had not been successful. This contract would have helped to boost the factory’s turnover.

Stellantis and Toyota to leave

«Since 2018, we have no new projects from Stellantis, a very important client. The ones we are working on are coming to the end of their journey.“, points out Isabelle Weber, CFTC union delegate at the site. For a year, the Ostwald site produced parts for Toyota, following the fire at a factory in Novares in the Czech Republic. “It was a new challenge to take on, everyone got involved ! But production resumed in June in the Czech Republic, where a new factory was rebuilt“, continues Isabelle Weber.

Novares Ostwald employees walked out on September 12. Union representatives are now preparing for the September 25 deadline. We will do our best to negotiate the conditions of departure, because everyone is deserving.“, emphasizes Isabelle Weber.
