The CMF Phone 1 appears to be missing an important feature: the budget device does not have an NFC chip. That is inconvenient, because it means you cannot make contactless payments with this smartphone.
Nfc missing on CMF Phone 1
At first glance, the CMF Phone 1 seems like a pretty much perfect entry-level phone. For less than 250 euros, you get a colorful and smooth 6.67-inch OLED screen, a fast processor, a large battery, and a unique design with interchangeable backs and optional accessories.
We would have gladly traded those interchangeable backs for nfc. That is a basic function in 2024 that you can actually expect on every smartphone. The even cheaper Samsung Galaxy A15, for example, does have an nfc chip.
You can also purchase a card holder for the CMF Phone 1, in which you can store your debit card, among other things. This way you can still pay contactless by holding your smartphone near the payment terminal. Of course, that is quite cumbersome.
CMF is the new budget brand
CMF is the new sub-brand of Nothing, with which the company brings (even) more affordable products to the market. In addition to the Phone 1, this includes a smartwatch, the CMF Watch Pro 2. It has a suggested retail price of only 69 euros and keeps track of your heart rate, sleep and sports performance. The straps are interchangeable, as is the bezel around the screen.
Finally, CMF offers earbuds, the Buds 2 Pro. For 59 euros, they offer a battery life of up to 11 hours and active noise cancellation, so you can listen to your music in peace.
