Only four out of ten Hungarians prepare in advance so that the autumn and winter months are not about stuffy noses and sore throats. Based on Sterimar’s recent, representative research*, we could still strengthen our immune system. Although three out of ten people say that you can’t avoid the common cold, many people still try to implement various prevention practices. We could be more aware: only one in five of our compatriots plays sports at this time and also pays attention to their diet.
Most people take vitamins, every third of us tries to spend a lot of time in the fresh air, and the same number allow themselves time to rest. Every fourth Hungarian believes in stress reduction, approx. and one in ten admits that washing out pathogens from the nose can be at least as important as washing hands and brushing teeth.
The common cold, also known as the common cold, is one of the most common diseases that children catch up to a dozen times a year, and adults a few times a year. Because symptoms can be caused by hundreds of viruses, people with weakened immune systems often fall from one cold to another.
There is no miracle cure, but a lot can depend on our way of life. On the one hand, we can try to avoid coming into contact with viruses that cause colds. But let’s face it, it’s quite a challenge. Another thing we can do is strengthen our immune system.
Sterimar was curious as to whether Hungarians are consciously preparing to fight the viruses that inevitably appear due to the cooling, rains and damp air.
Hungarians use these against the common cold
Towering high, most of the in vitamins they believe in this case. Four out of ten (41%) consciously start taking different dietary supplements for prevention. A third of Hungarians leave more time for themselves for resta quarter tries reduce stress. Almost every fifth of our compatriots steps into the field of action and he plays sports at least three times a week. The same number consciously pay attention to proper nutrition. 8 percent are aware that washing out pathogens from the nose can be at least as important as washing hands and brushing teeth, but much fewer people consciously use seawater nasal spray to prevent diseases.
“Based on the survey data, Hungarians could do much more to strengthen their immune system. In such cases, you should wash your hands more, disinfect your phone and doorknob, and it may be worth washing your nose with seawater salt solution. In addition, seawater preparations with a higher salt content are also effective in protruding the nose and can be used without the risk of getting used to it. he said dr. Esther Tóthotolaryngologist.
How do we prepare for the fight against the common cold? Here are the archetypes
According to the results of Sterimar’s recent representative survey, 39 percent of Hungarians consciously prepare for the autumn/winter cold season to avoid illnesses. A third is typical strugglingis doing everything in this field. However, two-thirds of the lazy falls into the category of those who prepare with this and that, but know that they could do more. Every tenth person admits to being like a ostrich. They are aware of what they could do to prevent disease, but they don’t do it. Almost the same number do not prepare because ignorant they feel, i.e. they do not know what preventive practices they could implement. Three out of ten are Hungarian incredulous. They feel that the cold will come anyway, it cannot be prevented, and therefore they do nothing. 14 percent really lucky. So many people said that they will never get a cold, so they don’t even prepare for it.
“They probably encounter some version of the cold virus, but it causes such mild symptoms that they don’t even notice it” he added dr. Esther Tóthotolaryngologist.
*About the research: The survey was conducted in June 2024 by interviewing 1,147 people, which is representative of smartphone owners aged 16-59 in Hungary by age, gender, education and place of residence. The research was carried out by Opinio Institue Kft. on behalf of Sterimar.
