What was predicted is coming true. Tourists, both Slovenian and foreign, headed south. Especially on the coastal highway, queues appear already in the morning.
We are at the peak of the summer season, so one of the busiest weekends was to be expected. The good weather also contributed. The predictions are coming true, that parts of the coastal highway have already been colored red this morning.
According to the traffic information center, there are currently traffic jams in front of the Karavanke tunnel towards Austria. The latter is occasionally closed in the opposite direction for safety reasons, so traffic jams also occur on the Austrian side. There is still a lot of traffic on the Dolenj highway near Novem mesto east towards Obrežje, on the Gorenj highway between the Jesenice west and Jesenice east junctions in both directions, on the Šmarje – Koper, Lucija – Strunjan and Lesce – Bled roads, and especially on the coastal highway. The traffic jam from Postojna, passing Unac and Logatac, extends to Ljubljana. Columns of several kilometers are formed, and the driving time is extended by at least 30 to 40 minutes.
Responsible drivers who are going on a long journey along the motorway junction are urged to check the road conditions beforehand. In the event of a traffic jam on the highway, a rescue lane must always be created, warns the Rescue Lane Institute.
