College students arrested in connection with the clash in New Bridge

There was a clash between the police and the protesting students demanding quota reform in the third Shah Amanat Setu (Natun Bridge) area of ​​Chittagong. A college student was arrested by the police.

According to the police, he has been arrested on suspicion of student involvement. The arrested student’s name is Nazmul Hasan (25). He is said to be an honors fourth year student of Government City College.

Besides, at least 10 people were reported injured in the clash. Many of them have been admitted to a private hospital in the city.

The clash started around 11:30 on Thursday (July 18). The police dispersed the protesters by firing tear gas. It is known that the agitators took position in the new bridge area from 10 am. Meanwhile, they tried to block the road with different slogans. This started the conflict with the police.

Meanwhile, traffic in Chittagong city is normal in the ‘Complete Shutdown’ program announced by the quota activists. However, no long-distance vehicles are running.

ADC Ashraful Karim, who was on the spot in the new bridge area, said, ‘I got information about the gathering of the boys of the student camp here (new bridge). We have entered the field to resist them. One person has been detained. A large number of BGB and policemen are on the ground. Three riot cars of BGB and two platoons of BGB have entered the field.
