Coming with ProMotion and 120Hz display for everyone?

Even in the days of the launch of the iPhone 16the rumors about the future of Apple devices do not stop, and there is already talk of what theiPhone 17. According to the latest rumorsprovided by Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants, the iPhone 17 and an even thinner model tentatively called iPhone 17 Air will bring with them one of the most beloved features of the iPhone Pro: the ProMotion.

The technology ProMotionpreviously reserved for Pro models, allows the display to reach a refresh rate of up to 120Hzoffering a much smoother visual experience when scrolling and playing video content. The big news would be that this technology will be extended not only to the iPhone 17, but also to the lighter and more compact version that is currently called iPhone 17 Air.

In addition to improving image fluidity, ProMotion also allows for optimized management of energy consumption. As we have already seen in the iPhone 13 Pro and later, the refresh rate may drop to 10Hzwhile the iPhone 14 Pro and later come in at a minimum of 1Hz. This allows for the introduction of features such as theAlways-On Displaywhich displays information on the lock screen even when the device is in standby mode. It remains to be seen whether the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will support a refresh rate lowered to 10Hz or 1Hz, but it’s a notable improvement over current iPhone 16 e iPhone 16 Plusstill stuck at 60Hz.

Ross Young has demonstrated remarkable reliability when it comes to predictions related to the displays of future Apple products. He was the first to reveal that the iPhone 16 Pro e iPhone 16 Pro Max they would have mounted larger screens from 6.3 inches e 6.9 inchesinformation later confirmed at the official launch.

As for theiPhone 17Apple should reveal it as usual in the September 2025and if these previews come to fruition, it will be interesting to see how ProMotion will further improve the user experience for the standard models as well.
