Once a fire has been fueled, it spreads quickly, which is why it is especially important to have fire alarms in the home. In case of an accident, it is also good to have a fire extinguisher and fire blanket at home. It can be the difference between life and death for you and your loved ones.
But despite that, many people use their fire alarm in the wrong way, says the injury prevention expert Hans Lövgren in an interview with P4 Jamtland.
This must be done in the event of a fire
If a fire were to start, you should start by saving yourself and others nearby from the fire. Then you must warn others who may be threatened by the danger and then call 112.
You can try to put out the fire if it can be done without risk to yourself.

How often should you check your fire alarm?
Lövgren emphasizes the importance of checking that the fire alarm works. He says you should test your fire alarm at least once a month.
– It is important to think about how old the fire alarm is, a maximum of ten years I would say, then you should replace them, says Hans Lövgren.

How many fire alarms should you have?
A common mistake that many people make is that they have too few fire alarms at home, and it can be extra dangerous if you live in a large house.
– There should be approximately one per 16 square meters, or a maximum of 12 meters between each fire alarm. But I, as an accident preventionist, would be happy to see that you have in every bedroom and that you have connected fire alarms also between the different floors if you have a larger house or a garage, he says.
