Confusion over failed Newey move to Ferrari

On Friday, Italian media reported that Red Bull’s star designer Adrian Newey’s move to Ferrari had fallen through because the Briton’s demands were too high. Since then, Aston Martin has been the favorite to sign the 65-year-old. But according to the latest reports, a move to the Scuderia is still not completely out of the question.

As the “Gazzetta dello Sport” reported on Friday, negotiations between Ferrari and the Briton failed because Newey’s demands were too high. The 65-year-old wanted to take 20 employees with him to Maranello, which was apparently too much of a burden for the Italian racing team’s budget.

Instead, the focus is on the star designer moving from Red Bull to Aston Martin. The team of Lawrence Stroll, father of driver Lance, is reportedly offering the Briton 100 million euros over four years. At Red Bull, he is currently said to earn ten million euros per season.

Formula 1: Final decision not until the end of August

The online portal “F1-Insider.com” is now also reporting on the talks between Newey and the British racing team. However, contrary to what the Italian media reported, a move to Ferrari is not completely off the table. The Briton does not want to make a final decision until the end of August.

According to “F1-Insider.com”, a longer break from Formula 1 or the end of his career are not out of the question. Nevertheless, there is currently a lot to be said for a commitment to Aston Martin because Newey likes the manufacturer’s “cult status”. In addition, he sees his life center on the island, in addition to his adopted home of South Africa.

Newey is under contract with Red Bull until March 2025. However, he is no longer involved in the technical development of the Formula 1 team. His presence with the team is more of an advisory nature, and he is responsible for promoting the RB17, the Red Bull hypercar he designed.
