Faced with global energy challenges, the countries of the region are increasingly investing in the diversification of sources and directions of energy supply, one of the key ones being natural gas.

Precisely because of this, the construction of a gas interconnection between Serbia and North Macedonia becomes a key strategic project that aims not only to increase security of supply, but also to contribute to the development of energy infrastructure in the entire region.

This interconnection increases energy independence, allowing Serbia and North Macedonia to rely on a wider range of gas sources. The planned route of the gas pipeline, which will be 47 kilometers long on the Serbian side, is part of the wider European energy connection and is an important step in ensuring a stable supply of natural gas for both countries.

According to the website of the Government of Serbia, the total value of the works on the Serbian side is estimated at 42 million euros, and the completion of the project is expected by 2027.

Preparations are underway, considering that the preparation of key documents such as the Spatial Plan and the Feasibility Study, which is financed from European funds, is underway. In addition, through this interconnection, Serbia will significantly improve the distribution network in the southern parts of the country and improve the storage capacity for natural gas, which is crucial for the stability of supply.

By connecting with the Greece-North Macedonia gas pipeline, which is expected to be completed next year, both countries will become part of a wider energy corridor that will enable a stable supply of gas from Greece to Serbia, strengthening the energy security of the entire region.
