A project to build the largest solar park in the Baltics was launched in Estonia. It’s about a project Crosswhich is being built in the district Lanemain the west of the country, while it is expected to start work in the fall of 2026. The pioneering project, worth around 125 million euros, is designed to use 350,000 solar panels and have a total capacity of 244 MW.

Solar park Cross is designed to supply electricity to around 55,000 households, which could make it a key player in increasing regional energy independence. The plan is for the project to include in the development of hybrid energy solutions in the future, more precisely to integrate solar energy with a wind farm and energy storage, which becomes an inevitable accompanying topic when it comes to renewable sources.

It is planned to add a battery with a capacity of 144 MW, which will contribute to the stability and reliability of the system, thereby reducing dependence on fluctuations in the energy market. Therefore, the Estonian renewable energy development company, Sunly, is working to identify a location for the installation of nine wind turbines as part of a hybrid solution.

The revenue sharing agreement ensures that the municipality of Lane-Nigula will receive 0.6 percent of the revenue from the solar park annually. If the wind farm is realized, the company Sunly plans to offer reduced electricity prices for the local population.

The construction of this solar facility represents a major leap in renewable energy capacity for the region, as it will more than triple the capacity of the previously largest operating solar park in Estonia, whose capacity is 77.53 MW.
