The General Anti-Fiscal Fraud Directorate has started an extensive control at several ITP stations in the country. In just one company, DGAF inspectors discovered that 19,000 undeclared Periodic Technical Inspections were carried out.
The General Anti-Tax Fraud Directorate carried out almost 400 checks at ITP stations throughout the country.
As a result of the checks, tax debts exceeding 45 million lei were discovered.
Controls at ITP stations throughout the country
DGAF discovered several companies that performed Periodic Technical Inspections, but did not declare them.
“In the case of taxpayers who perform ITP for motor vehicles, significant inconsistencies were identified between the services performed and the taxable income declared”, DGAF sent, according to digi24.ro.
In a first phase, 600 companies were checked at the national level. DGAF inspectors have identified a very large number of ITP benefits not declared for tax purposes.
One company carried out 19,000 undeclared technical inspections
The DGAF discovered that one firm had carried out no less than 19,000 undeclared technical inspections.
„To date, 383 anti-fraud controls have been completed, during which additional tax claims of over 45 million lei were found. At the same time, after a first evaluation of the results, indirect effects were also found in the compliance plan“, the document also states.
Controls by anti-fraud inspectors will continue in the next period.
These checks are done on the basis of a risk analysis. If inappropriate fiscal behavior is identified, then the respective company will come under the scrutiny of the inspectors.
„We recommend all taxpayers who perform ITP to comply with the tax legislation, to systematically register all incomes achieved by issuing tax receipts or invoices, through the RO e-Invoice system, to comply with financial discipline and legally employ the workforce“, the press release also states.
When you should do ITP
The Periodic Technical Inspection must be carried out no later than 3 years. This interval differs depending on the year of manufacture of the vehicle and the destination of the car.
The Periodic Technical Inspection of a vehicle is carried out:
- after 3 years from the date of first registration, for new cars;
- after 2 years if:

- vehicles with no more than 8 seats and an age of up to 12 years;
- motorcycles, mopeds, 3-wheel vehicles and quadricycles;

- after one year, in the case of vehicles with no more than 8 seats and older than 12 years.
The validity of the ITP also varies according to the destination of the vehicle:
- 1 year for goods transport vehicles;
- 6 months for:
- passenger transport vehicles in taxi mode;
- vehicles with more than 8 seats.
The minimum fine for driving a vehicle that does not have a valid inspection is 4,785 lei, and the maximum is 6,600 lei. In addition, the police will impound the vehicle’s certificate and number plates.
