Convicted of defamation, Rudy Giuliani, former Trump lawyer, delivers his Mercedes but clings to his baseball jersey

Former New York mayor and prosecutor Rudy Giuliani, ordered to pay nearly $150 million, agreed to give up his car and luxury watches but is holding on to a collector’s jersey.

A priceless piece of fabric. Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, ordered to pay nearly $150 million to two electoral agents he had defamed, agreed to give up his car and luxury watches to compensate them but is holding on to a collectible baseball jersey.

Rudy Giuliani played the role of spearhead of the campaign led by the former Republican president to obtain the invalidation of the results of the 2020 presidential election which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden. He was ordered in December 2023 to pay $148 million to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, two electoral agents in the key state of Georgia, in the southeast of the country.

Jersey signed by Joe DiMaggio

From a video showing the two women passing an object – which turned out to be a mint lozenge – during the counting of the ballots, the ex-mayor and ex-prosecutor of New York claimed that they exchanged a USB key “as if they were doses of heroin or cocaine” to fake the results.

Last month, a federal judge in New York ordered the former city councilor to give up part of his assets to compensate the two women. These include his New York apartment, a 1980 Mercedes Benz, jewelry, numerous luxury watches and collectibles, such as a jersey signed by baseball legend Joe DiMaggio.

In a letter to the judge on Friday, his lawyer informed him that Rudy Giuliani had begun the execution by handing over the watches, a ring and the Mercedes on the same day. On the other hand, he argues that certain goods must be exempt from the seizure ordered by the courts, in particular the baseball jersey.

The lawyer also asks the judge to postpone until January 22, 2025 a trial of his client scheduled for January 16 so that he can attend the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States on the 20th, as well as than the preparatory events on the previous days. Finally, he emphasizes that this compensation results from a criminal conviction which Rudy Giuliani appealed.
