The Republic of Serbia and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) signed an agreement on cooperation. The goal of this agreement is to reduce poverty and improve living conditions in rural areas of Serbia through investments in sustainable agriculture and rural development, as well as improving the lives of agricultural communities and vulnerable groups.

IFAD is a specialized agency of the United Nations established in 1977 in response to the food crises of the mid-1970s, and has already provided support for the improvement of rural communities in more than 100 countries around the world. The fund implements various projects that include the provision of financial resources such as grants and loans with favorable terms, technical assistance, and the promotion of innovation and knowledge transfer.

In Serbia, the meeting was held in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, attended by Anja Javor, Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Agriculture and Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and European Integration, as well as Naoufel Telahigue, Regional Director of IFAD for North Africa, Eastern Europe , Morocco, Armenia, Ukraine and Serbia.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that IFAD’s support will be realized through favorable loans and co-financing of projects, which will directly contribute to the development of rural areas of Serbia. On that occasion, it was emphasized that a strategic document is currently being prepared that will define the foundations for further cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and IFAD, including key goals and priorities for funding, according to the website of the relevant ministry.

Meetings with representatives of other ministries and institutions are also planned in order to expand cooperation and align with national development goals.
