It has taken a few years, but the traffic figures at Copenhagen Airport have quietly worked their way back to the level before the corona shutdowns.
A calculation from the airport shows that 29.9 million travelers used the Copenhagen traffic hub in 2024.
This is an increase of 12 percent compared to 2023. And it is less than half a million passengers from the annual record from 2018, which was 30.3 million passengers.
December 2024 was also the best December ever in the airport’s history, with 2.2 million passengers.
“Throughout the year, we have experienced increasing passenger numbers, and we continue to experience that the need to travel is great”.
“We are very satisfied that we are approaching 30 million passengers”, says Peter Krogsgaard, commercial director at Copenhagen Airport.
The growth is largely due to the fact that the number of travelers to and from Europe has grown by 11 percent in the past year. The European countries make up 84 percent of the traffic at the airport.
However, traffic to North America has grown by as much as 23 percent. This has happened as several new routes have been opened.
And this is not only due to travel-loving Danes, but equally to Americans who are visiting Denmark in increasing numbers.
The most popular European destinations are London, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Paris in that order.
When it comes to the international routes, Doha is the top scorer. This is followed by Bangkok, New York, Dubai and Los Angeles.
In total, it is possible to fly directly to 175 different destinations in the world from the terminals in Kastrup.
Copenhagen Airport – of which the state owns 98 percent – turns 100 years old this year.
The expectation is that the record for the number of passengers will be surpassed in the anniversary year.
