In the past few days we wrote about the return of the long-awaited international event dedicated to photography, Cortona On The Movewhich opened on July 11 and will continue until November 3. Several weeks during which guests, reviews and exhibitions will alternate that will be able to attract many people to the city of Cortona.

A few days after the opening (Saturday 13th July), the Signorelli Theatre in Cortona hosted the awards ceremony of the Cortona On The Move Award he was born in Vittoria Castagna Awardtwo awards that underline the photographic festival’s commitment to training and promoting young talents.
Il Cortona On The Move Awardnow in its third edition, has seen the triumph of Maria Abranches with the project entitled “MARIA”. The work, awarded with 3000 euros, tells the story of Ana Maria, a migrant woman forced into domestic work in exploitative conditions. The jury praised the project for its ability to transform a personal story into a powerful collective narrative, inviting reflection on social inequalities.
“Who cleans the world? And why is this work racially and gender-profiled?”are the questions that inspired Abranches, who dedicated the prize “to all women”. His work will be exhibited in the 2025 edition of the festival. Second and third place were respectively awarded Ingmar Nolting con “An Anthology of Changing Climate” e Julia Wimmerlin con “Stolen Language”whose projects will be published on the website of LensCulture, partner of the initiative.
The Cortona On The Move Award jury, composed of industry experts including Jim Casper of LensCulture and Paolo Woods, artistic director of the festival, stressed the importance of supporting photographers in the development and production of their work.
Il Vittoria Castagna Awardin its second edition, was awarded to Sara Spelt. This award, worth 5000 euros, is aimed at young people working in marketing and communication for cultural production. The jury appreciated the broad strategic vision proposed by Spelta, in line with the professional values of Vittoria Castagna. The winner will have the opportunity to collaborate with the team of Cortona On The Movewith a focus particular on projects related to the city of Berlin. A special mention was awarded to Sara Zilioli for his commitment and methodological precision.

Veronica Nicholardi (director of the festival) stressed how Cortona On The Move is “always committed to training new generations of photographers, constantly pursuing the search for original and innovative narratives”The two awards, he added, aim to “help and enhance young people in all aspects of cultural production, both in research and photographic experimentation and in the field of marketing and communication”The award ceremony was attended by an international jury for the Vittoria Castagna Awardwhich included leading academics and practitioners in the fields of cultural management and communications.
Cortona On The Move It thus confirms itself not only as an important photographic festival, but also as a incubator of talents and a bridge between artistic creativity and the managerial skills necessary for the promotion and diffusion of contemporary visual culture.
