Crash Bandicoot 5 has been cancelled

The news is unpleasant for those who were expecting a future Crash Bandicoot 5. As The Gamer reports, character artist Nicholas Kole recently announced on Twitter that a game he’s been working on for over three years has suddenly been canceled. The game had been called ‘Project Dragon’, and many Spyro fans, of course, were worried that Activision had canceled a new game featuring the beloved dragon, which Kole revealed was not the case.

What Kole mentions is that a Crash Bandicoot 5 was in development. When details about the project are finally revealed and reach fans of the series, they will be “heartbroken,” he said.

Kole is not providing any other details about the canceled Crash game, presumably because some contract prohibits him from doing so. The development company also does not confirm that the project was under development at the studio Toys For Bob, which is likely given his association with the Crash series in recent years. As for the studio, Toys For Bob recently became independent after leaving the Activision Blizzard. Toys For Bob laid off 86 developers in the process of this change, despite reports of closing the studio entirely. However, it remains open and is currently working with Xbox on its next game.

This new project is a mystery, and it’s important to note that Activision will likely retain the rights to both the Crash and Spyro series, despite the studio’s newfound independence.
