The Croatian State Inspectorate continues to demolish illegally built buildings in the Vodnjan area.

On Wednesday, the building inspectorate began demolishing houses in the Mandriol settlement that do not have a building permit. The owners of most of these are Slovenians, who watched in despair as their houses collapsed. The action is monitored by the police in case of any complications. Some owners of the buildings previously emptied them and at least partially demolished them, others did not succeed, or they do not want this and are announcing a lawsuit or have already filed a lawsuit. “No one announced the demolition to us. The neighbors told us that the excavators had come and we came immediately, but the house had already been demolished. I wanted to take the material away at my own expense, but they didn’t allow me to, they will do everything at my expense.” one of the Slovenians told Jutarnji list.

As announced by the city authorities in Vodnjan, the inspection began with the demolition of 16 illegally built buildings, 13 in the Vodnjan area and three in the Bal area. “The facilities are located in the area of illegal settlements around Mandriol, with the exception of one facility in the area of Pero. Illegal buildings are removed by the building inspection through third parties, which means that the owners of the buildings did not do this independently within a certain period,’ announced from the municipality, in which around 500 applications for illegal constructions were submitted this year alone.
