It is only logical that if you are involved in the world of cybersecurity you will have heard of a company based in the USA. which goes by the name CrowdStrike. From today, however, the whole world learned about it, as CrowdStrike is responsible for the huge blackout in the systems connected to Microsoft, which has plunged into chaos air transport, banking transactions and other types of management systems that we find in Super Markets and in the Mass Media Update. This American cyber security company has an anti-virus product, called Falcon, which is specifically designed to provide protection on Cloud platforms (such as Microsoft’s Azure or Office 365). As the BBC reports, CrowdStrike was only founded 13 years ago, but has grown to employ nearly 8,500 people.
So according to all indications, the bad mess that has been created is due to a faulty software update, which apparently went completely wrong and caused all the systems to be…knocked out! After the failed update, most of the systems in which there was a Windows operating system started to display the “terror” of the blue screens (Blue Screen of Death)! Right now, the company has started rolling out a fix, which is expected to fix the situation within the day. As the head of the American company, George Kurtz, pointed out on X and LinkedIn: “CrowdStrike is actively working with customers who were affected by an error detected in a content update for Windows users (…) This is not a security incident nor cyber attack. The problem has been identified, isolated and a fix has begun.”
The fallout from this problem has affected the global economy, with many flights delayed and banking disrupted, there will certainly be many shocks at a global level, raising questions about how to prevent this in the future the type of incidents.
