The largest children’s traditional music competition hosted by a private company was held to find the protagonist who will lead the future of Korean traditional music. The talented traditional music students selected through the competition will be given the opportunity to promote the beauty of our traditional music not only domestically but also overseas.
Crown Haitai Confectionery (Chairman Youngdal Yoon) announced on the 29th that it held the ’15th Haneum (Korean Traditional Music) Dream Tree Contest’ on the 26th (Friday) and the ’12th Gather!! Haneum (Korean Traditional Music) Gifted Contest’ on the 27th (Saturday) at the Crown Haitai Hall of the Seoul Namsan Gukakdang.
The ’15th Han-eum (Korean Traditional Music) Dream Tree Competition’ was an individual competition in which 70 people, who had advanced to the finals through preliminary rounds in 16 traditional music categories including string instruments (gayageum, geomungo, ajaeng) and wind instruments (haegeum, daegeum, piri, taepyeongso), showed off their skills that they had been honing.
On this day, the grand prize winners were selected from the elementary lower and upper grades, and the newly established middle school division. In the elementary lower grades, Song Si-on from Seoul Yeongpung Elementary School won the grand prize in the dance division (royal court), and in the elementary upper grades, Song A-in from Gyeonggi Taejang Elementary School won the grand prize in the string instrument division (gayageum). In the middle school division, Lee Seo-yoon from Seoul National Gugak Middle School won the grand prize in the wind instrument division (piri). In addition, 41 children won prizes in each division, and the winners in each division received a total of 40 million won in prize money and trophies.
On the 27th (Sat), the 12th Gather!! Han-eum (Korean Traditional Music) Talents, held as a group competition, had 13 teams from various fields including performance (sitting class, lathe, mask dance, pungmul) and dance (royal court, folk, Korean), fiercely competing for the grand prize. The participating children were organized into groups of 6 or more to enjoy traditional music together and develop a sense of cooperation, and competed with their skills.
The grand prize (Minister of Education Award) of the highest honor went to the ‘Hwadong Jeongjae Art Troupe’ in the dance (court) category. Including the grand prize, a total of 70 million won in prize money and trophies will be awarded in four categories: grand prize, best prize, excellence prize, and leadership prize.
The talented Korean music artists discovered through the competition are given various opportunities to promote the beauty of traditional Korean music, such as the ‘Innovation Festival’ hosted by Crown Haitai every year and the ‘Youngjae Korean Music Festival’ held every week.
In particular, there will be an opportunity to participate in the global Haneum project ‘Korean Pungryu’ performance, in which Crown Haitai Confectionery introduces the beauty of traditional music to the world. In fact, Haneum prodigies participated in the ‘2024 Korean Pungryu Osaka Special Performance’ held last July, deeply moving the Japanese audience.
A Crown Haitai Confectionery official stated, “This is a contest prepared to support and make the dreams of children who love our traditional music come true,” and added, “We will spare no support to preserve the original form of traditional Korean music and create a foundation for its further development in the future.”
