Cuddly robot pet from Casio helps you de-stress

Casio has launched its furry robot pet Moflin. The little robot is meant to be petted and cuddled, and can thus help you calm down. The Moflin also develops its own personality and emotions.

Of Casio Moflin is somewhat reminiscent of a hamster and online it is also widely compared to the Tribbles from Star Trek. The robot is designed to be held, stroked and cuddled. Over time, the Moflin will recognize you by your voice and the way you hold it. He then responds to you with sounds and movements unique to you, which should create a kind of bond.

The robot can express ‘feelings’ and develop a personality, which can change over time. If you give him attention often, the Moflin will become happy and calm. But if you ignore him, he will become sad. However, he does not show a bad mood in sounds or movements. You can only check the emotional state of your Moflin via an app.

Companion

It’s not a toy, like the Furby, which has also recently made a comeback. The Moflin is primarily intended as a companion that can offer you comfort when you feel lonely or sad. And it might help you feel a little less stressed.

The Moflin comes in brown or gray fur, and comes with a small box in which the robot appears to sleep while it charges. The battery life is about five hours. The new Casio product is very reminiscent of the Qoobo from years ago: a robot cat without a head.

Price and availability

Casio has started selling the Moflin in Japan for the equivalent of 365 euros. With an optional subscription of more than 40 euros per year you get a discount on repairs, cleaning and even a complete replacement of the coat. It is not yet known whether and when the cuddly robot will be launched in Europe.
