The eight Martorell school cooperatives participating during the 2023-24 school year in the Entrepreneurial Culture at School project (CUEME), visited the La Fageda cooperative on October 2 and 3. This outing takes place every year as the end of the CUEME program so that the students get to know firsthand how a real cooperative works.
The ‘Craftercoop’ and ‘MC Rodoreda’ cooperatives of the Escola Mercè Rodoreda participated in the visit; ‘The CUEME Echega Researchers’ and ‘Echegarays Family Fun’ of the José Echegaray School; ‘Musvites’ from the Vicente Aleixandre School; ‘Merca Power’ and ‘Mini Coop’ from La Mercè College, and ‘Malabar’ from the Special Education Center (CEE) El Pontarró. About 200 people, including students, teachers and the Economic Promotion team of the Martorell Town Council.
This visit, framed and fully subsidized by the CUEME project of the Diputació de Barcelona, is planned with a double objective, on the one hand to hold a meeting of all the cooperatives of Martorell participating during the year in the project, and on the other, that the students know the facilities and the operation of the La Fageda cooperative, as an example of a non-profit social entrepreneurship cooperative.
During the visit, the students learned about the philosophy of this cooperative and its business model that pursues the social integration of the people who work there, and they took a guided tour of its facilities and operation; a farm with about 400 dairy cows, a nursery for reforestation and the dairy plant. The activity ended with a tasting of dairy products where the students watched an explanatory audio-visual and tasted the products they make.
To carry out this guided tour, the students were divided into groups that entered in turns. While one group made the visit the rest of the students enjoyed the natural surroundings that surround the factory in the areas of La Fageda d’en Jordà.
