Cupra wants to sell in the United States. We talked about it before the summer, when the CEO of Cupra and Seat, Wayne Griffiths, said that sales of the sports brand in that market would be carried out “through a new distribution model” and today Automotive News Europe writes that they are in course of preliminary discussions with Penske Automotive Group to explore a partnership.
Ranked in the top 150 dealer groups based in the United States compiled by Automotive News Penske Automotive is in third place, with 229,942 new vehicles sold in 2023. The company has also moved at an internal organizational level by appointing Bernhard BauerCEO of Cupra Germany, CEO of Cupra USA.
Models for the USA
It is not known what Cupra’s US headquarters will be and the potential partnership with Penske Automotive Group also remains confidential. Meanwhile, Griffiths, in a November 22 press release, said that “Penske’s leadership in the industry and experience with the Volkswagen Group make this a potential partnership very promising“.
Later, again according to the brand’s preliminary statements, it will be announced the model range which will debut in the US market. These will be cars with various fuel systems, internal combustion, plug-in hybrids and electric.
According to Griffiths’ previews, one will arrive in the USA electric version of the Formentor and an electric crossover biggerwhich will be built in one of the Volkswagen Group’s North American factories.
The global climb
Cupra’s expansion also includes other markets, such as Mexico and Australia. In Europe at the end of 2025 it will present the Raval, its first (real) compact car strongly related to the Volkswagen ID.2 and of which we have shown you an exclusive rendering.
Cupra’s best-selling model in Europe is currently the Formentor, followed by the Leon and the Born.
