Customizable new icons for the Google Search app on iOS

Google’s Search app for iPhone and iPad, which is essentially its own browser, now offers customizable home screen icons. In addition to the default red, yellow, green and blue “G” logo on white, you get a dark background version. This is joined by a dark G on a light background and vice versa for a total of four.

To customize, tap your profile picture on Google Search for Settings > General > Change App Icon. This has been released since version 324.0.

It combines the way square and rectangular search widgets—with shortcuts for text, voice, lens, and incognito queries—in iOS offer customizable backgrounds. Options introduced in 2021 include Earth and Abstract art that can be updated daily.

The Google app on iOS is quite complete and offers everything, from Read Aloud to Google Password Manager with system-wide autocomplete support.
