Cybercriminals hacked LEGO’s official website –

They also posted a fake banner on LEGO’s website, bidding for customers’ money.

On the evening of October 4th US time, users who wandered onto LEGO’s website saw an unexpected banner announcing the launch of a new “LEGO Coin”, promising secret rewards for purchases. However, it soon became clear that LEGO did not, of course, launch a new official cryptocurrency. The banner led to an external site where LEGO tokens could be purchased using Ethereum.

So this all appears to have been a scam apparently carried out by cybercriminals who somehow managed to hack into LEGO’s website. LEGO quickly responded, removing the banner and links and restoring the original content, which focused on the partnership with Fortnite.

The company confirmed to Engadget that user accounts were not compromised in the incident. They said they had identified the reason for the unauthorized banner being dropped and were taking measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future, although details were not shared.

In its official statement, LEGO assured customers:

“On October 5th, 2024 (the evening of October 4th in the US), an unauthorized banner briefly appeared on LEGO.com. This was quickly removed and the issue resolved. No user accounts have been compromised and customers can continue as usual We have identified the cause and are taking measures to prevent it from happening again.”
