Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike causes global chaos at banks, airlines and broadcasters

Systems of banks, airlines, telecommunications companies, TV and radio broadcasters and supermarkets have been taken offline after they saw a blue screen of death message on their Windows PCs. Schiphol has also been affected. A spokesperson for Transavia confirmed to NOS that the outage has impacted the company’s flights.

Crowdstrike has reported that blue screens are indeed being observed in multiple locations following a software update and says the cause is currently under investigation. The company says the issue is related to its Falcon Sensor product. Falcon Sensor is an agent that CrowdStrike claims that it ‘blocks attacks on your systems’.

The site allestoringen.nl also reports hundreds of outages at sites such as the UWV, the KNAB bank and Microsoft.

Melbourne Airport informed customers that it is experiencing “a global technology issue impacting check-in processes for some airlines”.

Sky News in the United Kingdom reported to be off the air on Friday morning. All four companies of carrier Govia Thameslink Railway – Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Great Northern – are reporting problems.

CrowdStrike, based in Austin, USA, provides companies with standard security for their systems via subscriptions. The company is listed on the stock exchange and there is a big chance that the share will take a deep dive due to possible damage claims.
