Cycling: Hammer transfer “possible” – New superstar for Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe?

As the Vuelta approaches its final stages, the rumour mill in cycling is bubbling: According to a media report, a real transfer bombshell may soon be on the horizon.

In recent months, cycling star Remco Evenepoel has been repeatedly linked with a departure from his team Deceuninck/Quick-Step/Soudal and a move to the German racing team Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe. Now the speculation is gaining momentum.

As cycling reporter Ciro Scognamiglio from the “Gazzetta dello Sport” reports on the short message service X, the spectacular – and probably expensive – deal is again “possible”. This was confirmed to the Italian by unnamed sources.

However, at this point in time, these are only discussions and nothing has been signed yet.

High transfer fee expected for Evenepoel

A move by the 24-year-old to the competition would be a strong signal for Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, which only strengthened itself in the winter with the new captain Primoz Roglic. Evenepoel won gold twice at the Paris Olympic Games, in the individual time trial and in the road race. The Belgian is also a two-time world champion (2022, 2023) and winner of the 2022 Vuelta.

At the last Tour de France, he initially fought with Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard for victory in the overall ranking, but in the end the two superstars won the race between themselves.

The superstar is under contract with Team Soudal-Quick Step until 2026. A move to the competition will therefore only happen next year if both sides agree on a transfer fee. As the portal “Ciclismo al Día” suspects, the financial compensation is likely to be very high, but thanks to Red Bull’s entry, the team can be much more aggressive in the driver market.
