Statements of selectors
At the press conference prior to Monday’s game, Mircea Lucescu confirmed that he will make several changes to the starting team. “Il Luce” does not have captain Nicolae Stanciu, injured from the dispute with Kosovo, and Dennis Man, suspended for the number of warnings:
The boys knew that there would be changes for tomorrow’s match (no – today, Monday). There is no player who cannot be replaced. It is a group of players that prepares for that match and absolutely everyone must be ready to play. So there will be changes. Now a too homogeneous group has been created. There must be more competition, three or four players must be promoted in the coming period, so that you can create competitiveness. The player must be competitive first of all with himself and then with the opponent”, declared the Romania coach.
From the opposing camp, Sofronis Avgousti transmitted the following:
We know very well that we will have a nice atmosphere and that is the beauty of football. Our footballers have to enjoy the moment, they have to be competitive and play good football. We have to play our chances, but we know that the opponent has quality. After the last game, we want to see other things, so tomorrow’s game gives us the opportunity to see where we are,” said the Cyprus national team coach.
