Prague – The final tournament of the Billie Jean King Tennis Cup will begin today in Málaga with a match between Poland and home Spain. The winners of this duel will face the Czech Republic in Saturday’s quarter-finals, which in a weakened lineup will fight in the competition formerly known as the Fed Cup for the twelfth title in history and the first since 2018. The final is scheduled for November 20, with the Canadian women defending the title.
The selection of captain Petr Pála made it to the final tournament on a wild card, thanks to which he did not have to play in the April qualification. However, due to health problems, Markéta Vondroušová and Karolína Plíšková are missing, Karolína Muchová also apologized recently, and Czech number one Barbora Krejčíková opted out due to a demanding schedule. The team flew to Malaga on Tuesday consisting of Linda Nosková (26th in the WTA ranking), Marie Bouzková (45th), Kateřina Siniaková (46th), Sára Bejlek (142nd) and Dominika Šalková (164th).
