It already looks like the affordable Romanian hatchback will be the best-selling car this year in Europe. Although the Golf and Clio are second and third respectively, they do not have the capacity to overtake the fantastic Sandero in the remaining two months.
In Europe, almost 10.8 million new vehicles were sold in 10 months, which represents a mini market growth of 1.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Customers are more and more focused on hybrids and petrol cars, and less and less on diesels and plug-in hybrids, while with electric cars it goes according to the hot-cold system.
According to such a demand structure, Sandero, Golf and Clio cemented the podium this year. There are also surprises, let’s say that the Tiguan made a huge jump in the last two months. 17,600 copies were sold in September, and 17,300 in October. In the popular C-SUV segment, the Kia Sportage leads sales, however, the Tiguan is getting closer. As he states Klix.ba, this year’s photo-finish between these two dominant models will be interesting.
Sales of the Romanian hatchback, which is largely based on the popular Stepway, increased by 14 percent in 2024. More and more customers are turning to the affordable Romanian with a simple design and a measured “package” of technology. With 21,740 registrations in October, the Sandero is the only model to have sold more than 200,000 units this year. More precisely, 223,600 copies were registered in Europe in 10 months. Interestingly, Duster, with only 1,000 cars less than Sportage, narrowly missed the list of the 10 best-selling models this year.
As the end of the year approaches, it can be said that things are getting better for Volkswagen. Despite the ambivalence of the industry, the German giant does not seem to be in any kind of crisis in terms of sales figures. Although electric ID models were in demand in Europe in October, the Golf has the biggest growth. The multi-decade European bestseller recorded a 34 percent higher number of registrations in October, that is, 21 percent more in 10 months of the current year than in the same period last year. Namely, compared to last year, golf advanced five positions in the table.
Renaults, the Clio and the Captur, are the only two Renaults to cross the 100,000 mark this year. Thanks to Clio, which “pulls” the most, Renault ranks high on the European market, and the little French is the third choice of customers in Europe. Clio is the only one in the segment that offers four different aggregates, or powertrains, and is the only one that still offers diesel. With such a wide range of offers, Clio has no real competition in a class that is slowly disappearing from the scene and giving way to “elevated” models.
