DAPURPACUID – PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), Since its founding 46 years ago until now, ADM has achieved production of more than 8 million units for the domestic and global markets.
In terms of facilities, ADM has 2 assembly plants, namely in Sunter and Karawang, one of ADM’s newest facilities is the Karawang Assembly Plant assembly plant located in the Surya Cipta Industrial Area, East Karawang, West Java.
This factory has been operating since 2012, and stands on an area of more than 90 hectares. The Daihatsu factory in Karawang is capable of producing cars with a capacity of up to 200,000 units per year.
The ADM factory in Karawang has integrated facilities using the latest robotic technology which is capable of carrying out all four-wheeled vehicle production processes by applying the SSC (Simple, Slim & Compact) concept. ADM is committed to supporting the government’s carbon neutral program in reducing carbon emissions by implementing modern and environmentally friendly production processes.
This commitment was also realized by the implementation of the previous solar panel installation which began in 2019 starting from the Cibitung Parts Center facility, followed by the factory in Karawang which will continue until now. The Daihatsu factory will have a total capacity of 12.5 MW which will be able to reduce more than 17,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions or the equivalent of providing clean electricity for more than 1.5 million homes.
In the process of making a car, Daihatsu starts from the Press Shop, starting from iron plates which are printed using a printing machine of thousands of tons to make a complete car body. At the same time, car engine manufacturing was also carried out in the Casting Shop. Here, the engine block is made from liquid aluminum which is molded using high-tech machines, with a perfect level of precision.
After that, the finished engine block and quality tests have been carried out, taken to the Engine Shop to be assembled into a car engine that is ready to be used. So, with Daihatsu’s new technology, the engine has been assembled with high precision, so it doesn’t need to be heated before running.
Next, the car engine that has been assembled and the car body that has been printed are ready to be put together into a complete car at the Assembly Shop. Initially, the car body is put together in the Welding Process. The complete car body is ready to enter the next process, namely painting. The car is dipped in a liquid primer using the latest technology to make the steel rust-resistant and strengthen the outer paint. Finally, with the help of robotic technology, the exterior paint is carried out again to produce a perfect shiny car body.
Then, the process of installing the car’s interior and engine can be carried out. To speed up car work and meet market needs, Daihatsu assembles various types of cars at the same time with precision, because all of them have gone through quality tests and continuous checks in accordance with global production quality standards.
Finally, the complete car that has been finished is carried out various kinds of tests. Such as the drum test for braking tests and the water leaking test for testing whether the car body is leaking or not. All processes and tests are aimed at the safety and comfort of Daihatsu customers.
“ADM develops cars that suit the needs of the people in Indonesia, through the implementation of modern and environmentally friendly production processes through assembly plant facilities in Karawang, West Java. “We hope that this factory will be able to produce the best products according to needs, and contribute to the development of the national automotive industry,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Corporate Communication Director and Marketing Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor.
