Specialists from the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) warns that, after the prolonged heatwave, dangerous weather phenomena will follow almost throughout the country. In the following period, vthe weather will oscillate from hot to cool.
Thus, instead of the heatwave, the rains come, which will cross most areas and cool the atmosphere. The main cause of precipitation is in the upper layers of the atmosphere, where a strong cyclone will lead to atmospheric instability, which will manifest itself in torrential downpours and thunderstorms.
Temperatures will be lower by more than 10 degrees Celsius, including in Bucharest, said Elena Mateescu, general director of ANM.

Sudden cooling of the weather
Elena Mateescu, director of the National Meteorological Administration, said what to expect in the coming days regarding the weather in our country. “We are talking, especially from Thursday, of a decrease in the temperature regime, so that in certain areas, especially in the northern regions, the temperatures characterize a weather slightly below what would be normal for this period of the calendar. The temperature regime at the maximum level is generally between 20 and up to 28-29 degrees Celsius at most, the highest values in the south-west and south of the country.
Thursday and Friday, the coolest days this week, and what follows at the weekend, again increasing temperature values and it is possible that by the end of July we will again be talking about values of 34-35 degrees, especially in the west, south-west and south of the country”, Mateescu said.
Most of the country will be affected by the rains “from this afternoon, especially the mountainous areas, then in the central, western, southwestern part of the country. There, rainfall can exceed 15-25 liters per square meter. Hail will also be possible. We remain on a background of warm weather today, because in the south and southeast temperatures will approach – and slightly exceed – 35 degrees,” said Elena Mateescu.
ANM updated the weather forecast
According to the forecast for the next four weeks, there will be a sudden cooling of the weather this week, with temperatures that will not exceed 30 degrees Celsius and there will be storms and torrential rains.
Later, according to ANM estimates, temperatures will be increasing until the end of August. Also, strong storms are expected, in many areas of the country the rainfall regime is excessive.
Week 22.07.2024 – 29.07.2024
The thermal values will be around the specific ones for this week, throughout Romania.
With the exception of the western and southwestern regions where the rainfall regime will generally be close to normal, the amounts of precipitation will be in excess, especially in the area of the Eastern Carpathians and in the southern regions.
Week of 29/07/2024 – 05/08/2024
Average temperatures will generally be around normal for this range, possibly slightly higher in the southwest, but also slightly lower in the northeast of the territory.
The amounts of precipitation will be deficient in the western, northern and central regions, but especially in the area of the Western Carpathians and in the north of the Eastern Carpathians, and in the rest they will be generally close to the normal ones for this period.
Week 08/05/2024 – 08/12/2024
The average air temperature will have values slightly higher than those specific for this interval in the western and southwestern regions, and the rest of the thermal values will be generally close to normal, informs AFP.
Week 12.08.2024 – 19.08.2024
Average thermal values will be slightly above the specific ones for this week throughout Romania, but especially in the western and southern regions.
Precipitation amounts will be close to normal for this range, across the country.
