Danish cinemas show cat videos on the big screen

A number of Danish cinemas are showing cat videos on the big screen this weekend.

It is taking place on the occasion of the so-called “Cat Video Fest”, informs Nordisk Film Biografer on its website.

“Cat Video Fest” is an American tradition that has been around for nine years.

According to Nordisk Film Biografer, this is the first time the concept has come to Denmark.

Despite the name, this is not a definite festival, but rather a 73-minute long compilation of cat videos.

– The ticket price is 75 kroner, of which 10 percent goes to Kattens Värn. Then you can support our furry friends while being entertained, writes Nordisk Film Biografer on its website.

Kattens Værn is an animal welfare organization that helps cats in need and strays.

Nordisk Film Cinemas is not only showing “Cat Video Fest” this weekend, but also November 24.

According to the American media outlet Variety, film director Will Braden is the man behind “Cat Video Fest”.

– It’s my full-time job. My business cards say I watch cat videos, he told Variety in August.

In August, “Cat Video Fest” was shown in hundreds of theaters in the United States and Canada. The compilation of the cat videos brought in US$280,000 at the box office. This corresponds to almost two million kroner.

The year before, “Cat Video Fest” had earned 30,000 US dollars, which corresponds to just over 200,000 kroner.

Will Braden told Variety that he spends a third of the year collecting cat videos and getting permission from the videos’ owners to use them.

He uses the second third of the year to cut the videos together.

Will Braden spends the last third of the year getting the “Cat Video Festival” distributed to a number of theaters.
