On November 23, 2024, the Latvian Fencing Cup was held in Riga, at the Mežaparks sports center, bringing together representatives of Latvia, Ukraine and Estonia. Competitions were held for all types of weapons: epee, foil and saber. Daugavpils athletes completed the tournament with five medals, confirming their high level of preparation.
In the women’s competition, first place was taken by Riga resident Sofia Proshina, who confidently completed the tournament with a victory. Yulia Vansovich won the silver medal. Bronze awards went to Valeria Razashchenok from Daugavpils and Olga Petryuk, representing Ukraine.
In the men’s epee tournament, the winner of the Latvian Cup was Pavel Shvetsov, a participant in the Olympic Games in modern pentathlon. In the final, he met Yuri Syanit from Daugavpils, last year’s Cup winner, and won, leaving Syanit in second place. Third place was shared by Daugavpils epee fencers Daniel Loginov and Alexey Malinovsky.
The Latvian Fencing Cup once again confirmed the high level of training of Daugavpils athletes, who consistently represent the city at national and international competitions.
