Following the proverb “prepare the sleigh in the summer and the cart in the winter”, the Daugavpils Local Government for the second year in a row in mid-July begins preparing for the winter holidays and announces a competition for sketches of festive decorations for Vienibas Square and Rīgas Street.
This year, the city will celebrate the winter holidays under the motto Ziemassvētku gaisma (Christmas Light), which is what the decorations presented by the contestants must correspond to: decoration of the main city Christmas tree, at least 15 meters high, unique 3D and 2D decor, decorations on the section of Rīgas Street from Gimnazijas to Cietoksnia.
The local government will wait until August 14 to receive proposals from participants. Both individuals and legal entities, as well as their associations, can take part in the competition.
The works will be evaluated by a specially created commission.
It is expected that the installation of all decorations should be completed by November 29, and the holiday decor will be removed by mid-January.
This year, the local government plans to spend slightly more on decorating the square and the section of Rigas Street than last year – EUR 70,247.93 excluding VAT (in 2023 – EUR 69,421 excluding VAT).
Let us recall that the Daugavpils Municipality has been announcing a similar competition for several years now. Last year, two companies took part, and the winner installed a Christmas tree with a large shiny bow, decorations in the form of sweets, New Year’s toys and a festive locomotive.
