d&b audiotechnik CCL: Compact Cardioid Line Array

Broadband directivity control with cardioid radiation behavior in the low frequencies

,

The CCL system (Compact Cardioid Line Array) is d&b audiotechnik’s first product in the new CL series. It promises broadband directivity control with cardioid radiation behavior in the low frequency range in a passive design and enables operation on a single amplifier channel.

The CCL features a newly revised and patented d&b design and has been developed to bring the proven cardioid dispersion and electro-acoustic performance previously only available in the d&b SL series models for smaller, closer audience areas, for more installation applications and for to enable a wider range of customers.

The heart of the system is a completely new design with two front 7″ drivers, two side 5″ drivers and two 1.75″ tweeter drivers. This approach combines excellent broadband directivity and cardioid dispersion in the low frequency range with exceptional headroom in the high frequency range and minimal distortion.

The CCL system was also developed to reduce system infrastructure complexity and costs and requires minimal logistical and implementation effort. Lightweight and compact, it requires less space in the truck and fewer amplification and cabling resources in mobile use. In permanent installations, the cardioid behavior in the low-frequency range ensures that the perceived sound quality is significantly improved both indoors and outdoors. The slim design can be perfectly integrated into any room.

The CCL will be available in both mobile (CCL) and installed (CCLi) configurations. Also available in two versions for horizontal beam angles of 80° (CCL8) and 120° (CCL12). With its small dimensions (209 x 593 x 355 mm) and low weight (17.6 kg), it is a versatile, easy-to-setup solution for corporate events, regional tours, festivals and larger events where the SL series arrays are used can be added as a side-fill or in-fill. When it comes to permanent installations, the CCL system impresses in theaters, auditoriums, houses of worship and acoustically demanding rooms, such as: B. sports arenas or heavily reverberant rooms.

“d&b audiotechnik continues to be a leader in the development of loudspeaker systems with a cardioid design,” says Santiago Alcalá Baillie, Product Manager Loudspeakers at d&b audiotechnik. “With the CCL, we are responding to market demand for a compact, lightweight system that delivers the unique benefits of cardioid technology for a broader range of applications and makes our flagship technical solutions accessible to a wider range of installations and events.”

The CCL system is complemented by the new CCL-SUB, a flyable subwoofer available in both installation and mobile versions. The passive cardioid design consists of a front-firing 15″ driver and a rear-firing 10″ driver. The CCL-SUB scores with significantly reduced port noise and an extended usable bandwidth, especially when used in mixed arrays together with the CCL system.

Both the CCL system and the CCL-SUB can be operated with 40D, D40, D80 and D90 amplifiers, driving up to eight speakers per amplifier in any combination and under any load conditions, at maximum output without compromising headroom. Setups for the 30D and D20 amplifiers are also available.

The CCL system will be available in the first half of 2025. Visitors to NAMM and ISE will have the opportunity to hear the system and see its performance for themselves.
