Death comes on the phone

I’m not one of the unconscious brave, but I’m not scared of bombs either. However, the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkie broadcast stations in the possession of Hezbollah people in Lebanon made me think. Everyone was surprised at the genius of the diversion and competed in guesses.

The operation is unique. It was hatched and then put into practice by the Israeli secret services. How? Spy movie story. Real spies played the actors. Hard to imagine a scenario, but not impossible. Today’s movies are full of the spectacular fruits of the imagination. Even the life around us exceeds our perception and extends into this space of great technological mazes.

Probably few have learned the story of the package of several hundred numbers from the mobile network accessible from overseas or from other important partners. And politicians, and parliamentarians, and generals, I believe that in certain cases and journalists and people from the judiciary can be recorded or listened to live from other places on the globe. Maybe even from orbital stations. And “important” conversations are stored until they become really important.

I do not say who advised me (some years ago) what to do in case of violent riots in the Capital.

-You remove the card from the phone and throw it in the first trash can. You walk a few hundred meters and throw away the phone and retreat in a hurry to a place that no one knows. And you don’t call anyone from any phone. You read, sleep, listen to music and that’s it. You only pop your head out after two or three weeks, after everything is over and things have calmed down.

I smiled and politely replied:
– I don’t think that’s the case with us!

The explosion of pagers reminded me of the advice of this man connected to the backstage of politics, technology and the secret services. I had almost forgotten his advice when this ingenious explosion occurred in Lebanon.

I am not an expert on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Not even in espionage. And not in technology either. I am about to discover only a small part of its advantages. I see one thing. The speed of communication is amazing. But it’s also starting to be extremely dangerous. Identifying the position of a phone or other device with centimeter precision is amazing, especially in emergency cases. Facilitates rescue. But it can be dangerous for a human’s safety. It can also serve to eliminate it. From hundreds or thousands of kilometers he can be heard, followed and annihilated in the middle of a crowd or wherever he is.

Since the explosion of pagers, I look at my phone with different eyes. I really doubt it. Technology has come further than I imagined. I admit that I lost my step. It terrifies me that I am vulnerable in front of her and that someone, somewhere, can control or abuse me. And it can turn me into a target, into a subject of an operation, into the person targeted by a manipulation. As General Anton Rog says. It can make me do what I don’t want to do. Until yesterday, I was laughing at script lovers. Since the explosion of the pagers in Lebanon I have stopped. Well, I also have doubts. I say to almost everything in my mind:
-And if it’s different? What if it’s not true? What else is hidden behind a record or a charity?

I doubt it five times, ten times and start over. I used to think that the impossible revolved around me. Now I doubt everything. I can no longer defend myself with anything. Big dangers are no longer only on the front line, in cancer or on the pedestrian crossing. They can also come on the phone, and GPS, and personal accounts and other connections.

I am beginning to feel like a little fish above which dangle the baits, the net, the arrows and the bullets of those who determine who is uncomfortable and who is not.
