The President of the Republic says he will decide this Tuesday whether or not to enact the reduction in personal income tax approved by the opposition in Parliament. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa says he will obviously make a “political interpretation”.
“The reading is obviously political, I explain why, in general, I take the position I take and that is why I am waiting to make a global explanation, together, about the various diplomas”, declared the head of state, during the visit to the educational center of the Aga Khan Community, in Lisbon.
Asked by journalists whether this consideration has to do with the negotiations for the State Budget for 2025, which began on Friday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa responded: “that is what you will see, but you have already realized that yes”.
On another level, the Assembly of the Republic sent a notification for the President of the Republic to be heard by the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the case of the twins.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa responds that “next week” he will say what his position is on the Parliament’s letter.
The leader of the Socialist Youth and MP, Miguel Costa Matos, accuses the President of the Republic of contributing to political instability if he vetoes the IRS bill approved by the opposition in Parliament, how SIC advances this Tuesday.
In an interview with Renaissancethe socialist leader considers that the head of state is interfering in the parties’ parliamentary negotiations.
“The President, instead of getting involved, once again, in negotiations between parties, should stick to his role as a magistrate of influence and promoting stability and the normal functioning of institutions”, says Miguel Costa Matos.
